About

My adventure into foraging began in 2013 in southern Ontario, while hiking beautiful trails in old-growth Carolinian forests. The diversity of plants, flowers, mushrooms, and trees amazed me, and as I researched the flora I encountered I learnt that there were many plants and fungi that were not only edible, but delicious and healthy. Thus began my love of foraging and harvesting from the wild!

I've found foraging to be intensely rewarding. It is a great way to get in touch with nature, and follow the cycle of the seasons and plants you will encounter when out in the wilderness. And after a long hike and successful collecting, making a delicious dinner with the things you have gathered is gratifying.

A New Chapter

As I recently moved back to Winnipeg, all my foraging activities will be concentrated in the province of Manitoba. Although there is some overlap with edibles found in southern Ontario, I am currently researching and preparing for the upcoming foraging season. There are different growing seasons, as well as fungus, plants, and berries to look for.

On top of that, I am an avid knitter, and have begun dyeing wool using mushrooms. I will also be providing information on my adventures with mushrooms and lichen dyes through this blog.

Who Am I?
I have recently moved back to my homeland of Manitoba, where I have taken a position as a geologist. I am also a part-time graduate student, finishing up my M.Sc.

I am a lover of dogs, and own two.
Fisher-woman extraordinaire. Amateur huntress. Collector of rocks and fossils. Hiker and snow-shoer. Maker of soap. Drinker of beer. One-part hippie, one-part tomboy.

River the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and Elser the German Shepherd. Best hiking buddies ever (and Tom too).
